Hate Watching Supergirl: Mediocrity Deserves Applause

Supergirl left us with a weird feeling we couldn’t shake: not anger in the fun way, not confusion in the mystery way, just a movie that keeps reaching for big themes without doing the work to make them land. So we go scene by scene and ask the questions the film seems allergic to answering. Who is Kara when the story starts, what does she actually want, and what choice forces her to change? When those pieces are missing, every “important” moment feels like it’s happening in a vacuum.
We dig into the craft too: the drab look, the muddy staging, and action scenes that hide impact instead of delivering it. We also talk needle drops and why a great song can feel offensive when it’s dropped into a scene that hasn’t earned the emotion. Along the way, we shout out the clearest bright spot: David Corenswet’s charisma, plus a candid take on why Jason Momoa’s Lobo feels like pure flavor with no narrative purpose.
Then we get philosophical. The episode turns into a debate about the trolley problem version of superhero morality, the “don’t become a killer” trope, and why vengeance sometimes gets framed as wisdom-free when stories refuse to grapple with trauma honestly. If you’re looking for a spoiler-heavy Supergirl review, a broader James Gunn DC Universe temperature check, and a conversation about what makes superhero storytelling actually work, hit play. Subscribe, share with a friend who loves arguing about comics movies, and leave a review with your hottest take on Kara’s ending decision.

Cold Open And Morning Banter
SPEAKER_02I can't make this one short because I'm uh You're already hot, right? It's hot outside.
SPEAKER_04It's very hot in it's very hot. I have Janet comes in here, she's gonna end the show. So we can't get out of here. We can't let her come in here. I should have given her like a sleeping pill, you know, put her out.
SPEAKER_01Just crush it up, put it in her morning juice. Sure. I know. I know exactly what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_04Are we recording, Tony?
SPEAKER_05Dan and Tony. Dan and Tony.
SPEAKER_04Welcome to AWatching with Dan and Tony, another early morning existence in recording. I'm Dan.
SPEAKER_01I'm Tony. We are existing. It's it's that was right. You did it.
SPEAKER_04You know, but are we really existing or are we just like a brain in a box? It's always the question.
SPEAKER_01Kind of like in Futurama when they put the presidents in the little canisters and then they live forever, just like that. No? Like the Matrix. Ah, the Matrix. Well, if it's the Matrix, I'm that weird guy that's like ignorance is bliss in that steak, so don't tell me. I'm good.
SPEAKER_04That weird guy.
SPEAKER_01I'm all good.
SPEAKER_04I don't remember who the weird guy was.
SPEAKER_01The guy that's like, mmm, ignorance is bliss, and he's like, mmm, the steak is so good. That guy? You know that guy.
SPEAKER_04I I gotta say, I do not believe I've ever I don't think believe I've ever seen The Matrix a second time. You only watched The Matrix one time. I have the feel- I mean I'm not saying it's a bad movie. I just have never I may maybe I rewatched some of it one time, but although I mean the second and third movies. I remember I must have been in the theater for like the third one, and you know, they're doing the the drum circle and how the Zion party.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I saw I saw three opening night at midnight and I fell asleep. I bet you did. I get it.
SPEAKER_04That was some uh some probably gave you some weird dreams. Um on this show we watch movies.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we do. I think you picked this movie. You sort of picked this movie. Yeah, yeah. So I gave you a choice.
SPEAKER_04Slight assist.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Assists are great. They still count in the score column.
SPEAKER_04Uh that those are the best players, the assist players.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if they're the best players. They're the best. They're the best teammates. I don't know if they're the best players. The best players.
SPEAKER_04Only players that matter.
SPEAKER_01I think Michael Jordan would have something to say about Scotty Pip.
SPEAKER_04I love Scotty P. Tony, we need we need we need a movie because it's very hot and we can't go an hour 55 minutes on which one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we did a uh last week, it was a really long episode.
SPEAKER_04Was it an hour? It's an hour and fifty, hour fifty five minutes. Something like that. Yeah, it's very long.
SPEAKER_01Wasn't as long as the movie. No, because that movie was stupid long. Very long. Uh so we we went and did a uh smash hit blockbuster movie coming out swinging
Picking Supergirl Under Duress
SPEAKER_01for the summer. Uh we're we're ending summer strong. That's what we're doing. Because summer does summer end on Labor Day? Is that the end of summer?
SPEAKER_04It could end tomorrow and I'd be happy.
SPEAKER_01I hope, I mean, heat-wise, let's hope that it ended a week ago. Um, so we're doing uh Jason Mamoa's starring vehicle, Supergirl.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Wow.
SPEAKER_01Was that too mean out the gate?
SPEAKER_02Well, I here's my question: is would you want to go back and watch Under the Silver Link again, or would you want to watch this again?
SPEAKER_01I don't want to watch it either. Don't make me pick that.
SPEAKER_04There you go. That's my there's my that's the end of the episode.
SPEAKER_01Here, hold on. I would have to pick Supergirl. I understand.
SPEAKER_02I understand you're gonna pick Supergirl, but you had to think about it. You didn't just go. This movie didn't go like you didn't go, oh yeah, Supergirl, sure. I'm just gonna go.
SPEAKER_01Supergirl is is not as frustrating as Under the Silver Lake. Doesn't make me as mad. No, actually, but I will say I will say I think it's more entertaining, which is weird to say for how much I hated. No, no, Under the Silver Lake. I was mad, but at least I was like, oh, I'm I'm mad at the movie. I'm I'm in I'm participating with the movie. This movie it gave me nothing. It gave me like zero anything.
SPEAKER_04Um so when I was when I was looking doing the thumbnail for uh Under the Silver Lake, I went to the um the I always go to the IMD page, IMDB page, and I you know they always have photos there, and that's usually the best place to pick up a decent photo. Smart. 400. 400 does not mean actually 400 because there's always like press photos of openings and things like that. Um there were so many good ones. Everything was like clear and meant something, and you knew exactly where it was from the movie. Something meant something?
SPEAKER_01Oh boy, weird.
SPEAKER_04It it conjured the scene that the image was from, and there were just there was a plethora of them. You were just like, okay, here's this character, there's the the weird Barbie dolls from the movie, you know, in that room, and there's you know, as much as you might hate all the things in that movie.
SPEAKER_01I did, and I hated every single one of them.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there were so many puzzle pieces. Yeah. And then you watch this movie, Supergirl, and it is it is a pile of mud and slop.
SPEAKER_03You should just nothing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean, there there's probably a few things, but so much of the movie just takes place in the shadow of a bar that you don't want to be in. And then when you kind of actually see it, you're like, oh, this is a shitty set on a backline.
SPEAKER_01Which is really interesting because Superman, for all of its faults, which I found many, it was colorful, it was beautiful, it was vibrant, it was the opposite of this movie. And I understand that they're doing like, I don't know, James Gunn's like, oh, we're doing different genres, we're doing different things, we don't want anything to look like, I don't know. They're doing something weird over there because they're trying to be the anti-Marvel. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_04So they're not trying to make a cinematic universe, they're just trying to make all these different movies that are in different universe.
SPEAKER_01You know what I mean? They're they're connected, but they're not the same. And so, like, Clayface is gonna be an R-rated thriller. And I'm just I'm not interested in any of this.
unknownNope.
SPEAKER_01Uh swing and a miss so far. Um at least Superman was entertaining. It didn't feel like a Superman, and we talked about this when we did it, but Superman didn't feel like a Superman movie, it felt like Superman was in someone else's movie. Sure. Um, but this felt like nothing. It didn't feel like a
Why The Movie Feels Empty
SPEAKER_01supergirl movie, it wasn't a logo movie, it wasn't a small child movie, whoever this Ruthie person is. I uh I got nothing. I got nothing. I don't know what this movie is. It's nothing.
SPEAKER_04Well, I'm gonna say two things.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04The first one is the only good parts of this movie really are David Cornsweet, who is so personable, so his joke, he he comes on the screen, and you're like, oh, I like this movie. I like this guy. This guy's joke, joke, joke, joke, joke. All good. Here's my thing. Oh my god. I don't know if it's a good one. Because I agree with you. Was that in Superman? Was he that good in Superman? That's what I'm gonna tell you right now.
SPEAKER_01Oh, no. This Superman is so much better than James Gunn's Superman, and this is what that's what it should have been. Because Corn Sweet's got it. He's got that in him, and they just didn't do it. He likes if there were glimpses of it, yeah. He drops that they did not lean into it, yeah. He drops that first joke, and I was like, Holy shit, what's unbelievable? He come, he completely changes this movie when he's on he's on screen for five minutes and it's like just holy shit, I'd love to see a Superman movie. But then I remember, oh, I did see a Superman movie and it wasn't very good. So it's a weird, weird dichotomy there. But he is by far and away the best part of this movie. He comes in, you're like, oh, so this is acting, this is a character, this is how you do anything whatsoever. Amazing.
SPEAKER_04We we all had hopes that Jason Momoa was gonna come in and do this great logo and they were gonna give him things to do, and but they didn't. He kind of he he's he's trying with what he has.
SPEAKER_01I mean, listen, he's got swag. I'm I'm never gonna knock Jason Momoa, I think, ever again. Because he comes in, he's like, Yeah, this is my character, and I'm doing it. And they're like, they gave me three lines, I'm gonna say them funny, and then I'm gonna walk around a bit and smoke a giant cigar. He shouldn't be in this movie. There is no reason, story-wise, character-wise, there's no reason for him to be in the movie other than someone was like, I guess we'll just put him in this movie, right?
SPEAKER_04You you edit out him. You there's no change in the movie.
SPEAKER_01Same exact movie. Same exact movie from cover to cover. Uh boy, this is uh this is such a mediocre movie. I I don't even I don't even know how this happens.
SPEAKER_04Now, who's the worst actress? Uh the girl that plays Supergirl or the girl that plays Ruthie.
SPEAKER_01So here's my I see a lot of people that were complaining about Ruthie. Okay. I didn't think she was that bad. I thought her character was super annoying, but that I don't think that's her fault. I think what they what they gave her to do was fairly uh annoying. Um but I I'm not I'm not feeling supergirl. Oh again, probably their fault, if I'm being uh completely honest, but who knows?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's like I I there wasn't anything there for her to do.
SPEAKER_01No. In a story that I think, I think, hard to be sure, is supposed to be about grief and recovery, but they don't really give her any grief or recovery to do. So that makes it hard as an actor, I think.
SPEAKER_04Okay, let's put let's put that one to the side.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna have now we're gonna talk a bunch about that.
SPEAKER_04We're gonna talk about the core
Cornsweet And Momoa Bright Spots
SPEAKER_04principle as to why this movie doesn't work at all. Okay. Superman, the Superman movie, the thing you forget is that they completely changed Superman, and he was supposed to come to Earth and be Super Nazi, right? He was supposed to be he was supposed to be Super Master Race, take over the world.
SPEAKER_01Sweet, sweet harem. Yep.
SPEAKER_04Yep.
SPEAKER_01Was there a sweet harem thing? I don't remember. They mentioned harem like four or five times in the span of two minutes, and it's just like, ugh, guys, this is not fun.
SPEAKER_04Oh, and that's interesting because this movie has the whole terrible subtext of women's slaves things.
SPEAKER_01Like, I understand we're on the other side of it, but like we've brought it up twice now in two movies. It's kind of weird.
SPEAKER_04We don't need that. We we can we can make a point about family or friendship or sure bad reavers or whatever the fuck, these world's dumbest villains.
SPEAKER_01Yeah oh boy, oh boy, this guy.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so we set up the Superman's a super Nazi, so I guess his parents are are the super Nazi bunch of Kryptonians, and then there's then there's supergirl's parents who are not that way, they're the exact opposite.
SPEAKER_01Right, because it's David Crumholtz, so you know he's gonna be a good guy. I don't know who that is. You know who Crumholtz is shut up, Dan. Was he in a movie or TV show? Yeah, he's in lots of movies. David Crumholtz? Come on.
SPEAKER_04I know the name, I don't know who the name is.
SPEAKER_01Uh Santa Claus, he was the main elf. How about that? Bernard, the main elf.
SPEAKER_04He was the main elf.
SPEAKER_01The greatest role of all time.
SPEAKER_04Santa Claus, the movie?
SPEAKER_01With Tim Allen? Yeah. Oh, the Santa Claus? Claus? Yes, exactly. Claus. Yeah, without the E. That's a good movie.
SPEAKER_04Um, okay. I still haven't seen that.
SPEAKER_01I told you to watch it, but you're you did.
SPEAKER_04I'll watch it this year. I can only watch movies like that from December.
SPEAKER_01I can only watch my 90s movies. There's only so much time in December, you know?
SPEAKER_04Okay. So he's a super Nazi. The other family is not super Nazis.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_04And they send her to go live with the Nazi super Nazi. Like, that's they they go, they send her the exact same place he went.
SPEAKER_01And I'm like, it's gonna be great. Don't worry about the all-powerful cousin.
SPEAKER_04Tony, I'm your parents, yes, and we're dying, and so we're gonna send you to go live with uh your super Nazi uncle.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Do you think I'd kind of be like, he's a super Nazi?
SPEAKER_01He's not gonna be a good dude, so be careful.
SPEAKER_04And they just ignore all that. You can't ignore, you can't ignore that.
SPEAKER_01Not even not even one word about it.
SPEAKER_04We've sent you to live on the same planet with your super Nazi cousin. Like, that doesn't make any sense. You know, and no, sorry. So keep going just when you kind of realize when you're sitting there and you kind of realize that you're like, how does that work?
SPEAKER_01It doesn't work. That's the thing. It doesn't work at all. It's a really bad plan.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, why would you change that?
SPEAKER_01You know, like that you need to add a changing of all of it is super confusing because that even on Krypton, right? Yeah, so I'm I'm actually even a little confused on what Zorell wanted versus um her dad. Now I can't remember everyone's names. I'm so sorry. Um, so Superman's dad wanted to save the planet origin like in the original stuff, and then the brother voted against everyone leaving because they're like, oh, this is our planet, which I guess is kind of still what happened because then her dad launched the planet bubble, whatever the fuck that was Argo The Force Field to Argo, the force field to Argo He saved the city of Argo. But then what happened to everybody else die? I'm I'm I I honestly don't understand the backstory now between the two brothers.
SPEAKER_04Oh no, everybody died except the people that got put into jars. But who who decided who got to get jarred? It's weird. I mean, I don't understand. I think you just had to have a cool scientist living in the neighborhood. Oh, is that what it is?
SPEAKER_01Can't believe it. All right. Just bad luck.
SPEAKER_04They got sort of giant jarred, you know. Not quite sure, not quite sure how that city lives out there floating around.
SPEAKER_01Well, it doesn't do that well. It only lasts a couple years before kryptonite poisoning.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, then we'll we'll talk about kryptonite and and it.
SPEAKER_01Shouldn't they all just go to a yellow sun? Because then they're fine. Because he tells her, he's like, don't worry, the yellow sun's gonna make you all powerful. Why don't you guys all just go to a yellow sun?
SPEAKER_04I think the idea is this is based on a 12-issue uh story called Supergirl World of Tomorrow. Woman of Tomorrow. Woman of Tomorrow. And uh what's her name? Uh the woman who drew it's really really cool. Um, so point being is lots of stuff happened in there, and I'm sure they expl tried to fit tried to explain how you kill everyone but one girl, and there's no way to get out except going all the way to Earth. And you know, even though even though in 20 years everyone in the the whole system has spaceships and can go anywhere they want, everyone knows what Kryptonians are, and it's not like Kryptonians were like in the sep-that's also very confusing.
SPEAKER_01He just knows that her weakness is kryptonite. There's only two Kryptonians left. Ah, I don't know about that.
SPEAKER_04And he could some town track down kryptonite in a day. Make arrows out of it. Like, what are you talking about? This is so dumb. It is dumb. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Um, sorry, we're good. We're all over the pitch here.
SPEAKER_04Now we'll
Krypton Backstory That Breaks Logic
SPEAKER_04now we'll just we'll do one more thing. We'll talk about alcoholism. Oh, great. One of my favorite topics. She begins the movie as an alcoholic, a grieving alcoholic who's not showing any grief, but is just an alcoholic. Just yeah, just really the second part of it. Yeah, she's she's suffering grief, but she doesn't suffer it. She doesn't explain it to us. We wait for an hour into the movie, and even then she's not really grief-stricken, and it's not really.
SPEAKER_01Appreciate it. See you later.
SPEAKER_04We're watching this uh this uh this noir show, scandy noir show, Scandinavian, you know, noir show. And the the one guy, you know, we sweep episode one, we set up that he has struggled with alcohol in the past because of losing people. At the end of episode one, he loses a person. Episode two, you know what he does the whole time? He drinks drinks and alienates everyone in his life.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04And then at the end of episode two, he pours the bottle out.
SPEAKER_01Oh boy.
SPEAKER_04So now we know he's back and everybody's in trouble.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, baby. I love that.
SPEAKER_04That's what you gotta do. You gotta you gotta give us a a little understanding of what's going on.
SPEAKER_01Also, I assume there's points in that episode where he like learns things.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, yeah. He has to go through stuff and he realizes that he's going down the wrong path.
SPEAKER_01That's how you do it. You have to go through things to learn. Ah, see, I was trying to figure out what this movie was missing, and it's you know, a story and a plot. She just goes to a different planet where she can't get drunk, and that solves the problem. And it's just like, oh, this is great. I I like this better than being drunk. Wow. Okay.
SPEAKER_04She doesn't get the anger doesn't bubble up, and then she's constantly using the anger and yada yada yada.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So there's a there's a point in this movie, and well, I mean, now I'm just gonna get all over the place. Sure. Where um the those three, the families killed when during that fight, like halfway through the movie, and they kill the daughter, and that should be like a very heart-wrenching moment. And then superhero comes and she's like, I'm so sad that this happened. And then the girl's like, This is your fault because you didn't let me kill him, which is not like so stupid. Like that would have happened. Okay. Right, exactly. Yeah, you're dead, girl. I'm sorry, you're dead. You're so that would have been a nice moment for her to like have to go through something. There was a because like they set it up like she was gonna maybe go through something, and then they were like, Well, we don't really know how to handle it, so we're just not gonna do it. But you guys get it, right? You get it. And I was very disappointed. The coding is all there, so you should be able to figure it out in your standard. You can figure it out what we're trying to do. You get it. We don't want you to feel any emotions like something has happened. No, but you if you think about it, it's probably there somewhere. Yeah. So it's just they don't do a good job at all. Yeah. So they should die. What?
SPEAKER_04Supergirl, 2026,
Grief And Alcohol With No Arc
SPEAKER_04hour and 48 minutes. We s we what what uh what about all the the the needle drops in this movie, Tony?
SPEAKER_01Oof. Um, I so Jimmy Eat Worlds the Middle, one of my favorite songs of all time. It is possibly the most misused song I've ever seen in my entire life. Uh, and no offense to the person that does the cover. I think the cover sucks. So both things, it was I thought it was terrible. Why would you have someone do a cover of Jimmy Eats Worlds?
unknownI don't know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01You got perfection. You got perfection right in front of you.
SPEAKER_04Just take some time.
SPEAKER_01Is it that one? You do kind of sound like a mupp at some point. Do they have like a little girl sing it? Is that what they hit? No, they do not. It's actually so just real quickly, the song uh a young lady wrote to the band about how she was getting bullied in school and like was very depressed and stuff. So he wrote this song for her, and it's beautiful and it's wonderful, and he sings it. Um, but it's it's great, it's awesome. And this was this fumbled, just absolutely fumbled.
SPEAKER_04It's offensive as far as all the Jimmy world people are like, I'm out of here, I'm done, nothing.
SPEAKER_01They all better be mad as mad as I am because I'm livid about it.
SPEAKER_04So we start, crypto sets off a record player, and I wrote it plays some song.
SPEAKER_01Some song is right, because they're not great. You know, they're like it. Here's what I feel like. Yeah. Somebody, whoever directed, I don't remember who did this. I apologize. No one, this is a kid. This is a committee. A committee. James Gunn was like, hey, I like to do music in my movies. You should do music. And they're like, Oh, okay, cool. I've never heard music before, but I'll do my best. That's how that meeting went.
SPEAKER_05I found a bunch of songs. I don't know what they mean. I'm just gonna put them in different scenes. Just I just did my iPod shuffle and uh hear the things that came up. Spotify recommended all the songs in this, and Spotify made the decision.
SPEAKER_01Have you used this on Spotify yet? Holy shit, it's terrible.
SPEAKER_04Do you really think I have Spotify? I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you don't. I do have Spotify because I love me some music, and it's the easiest, unfortunately. I feel sorry everybody. I know I shouldn't be giving them money, but I too. But they came out with this AI DJ, and it's like, um, DJX, blah, blah, blah. Here's some music. He doesn't play anything I like. He's so bad at it. He doesn't know how to make an algorithm. Hold on a second.
SPEAKER_04You are I could sit and program for you, and you would love it. Easy. Easy. I'm the easiest person to please, I think. You're, you know, it's like your spectrum of Interest is just very narrow. It is very tight, very specific. You know, it's like you just you just pull up whatever it is, 1991, and then you just see what the top 10 is, and then just get whatever PowerPopped. That's lovely. And you are happy. PowerPop pop, whatever.
SPEAKER_01So what the DJ does is he's like, I see what you listen to, so I'm not gonna play any of that. I'll play something totally different and see if you like it. I don't. I don't like it. I've had Spotify Pro for like 20 years, guys. You know what I listened to. Just play that. It's ridiculous.
SPEAKER_04So song plays, crypto pees on things, supergirl is wasted, she's sleeping, Superman calls, she doesn't do it, she gets in a spaceship, she parties, and then she flies out. She's like, Oh, I guess I gotta clean up my act a little for an unknowable reason. So she goes where there's a because we had to set up that under the red sun you can punch her and she bleeds, but under the yellow sun, she's Superman or has Superman level powers. Um and then her that what did you think of the zero G hair? The hair.
SPEAKER_01I thought in general, yeah, the special effects were pretty lacklustered.
SPEAKER_04Okay. I just thought it looked weird. You're just like, it does look weird. It might look good in a comic where someone draws it, but like in the thing, you're just kind of like Yeah, but I feel like even in uh oh, the Marvel, Captain Marvel.
SPEAKER_01I feel like when they did it in that, it looked fine. Okay, I don't remember being like, this doesn't look right, but I don't know. You know, what do I know?
SPEAKER_04It always sort of stood out when she was kind of doing the supergirl stuff. It sort of sort of felt like a rig. It sort of it never I mean you could do like two hours on the physics of the fights in this movie, and you'd just be like, Well, none of them felt good. I went back and you know, I I had about 15 minutes to go and I got so angry I turned the movie off and I went and watched this movie uh RRR, which is this did
Needle Drops And Soundtrack Misfires
SPEAKER_04you watch that movie?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I've told you about this before and you'd never watched it, so you finally got off your dumb ass and watched it.
SPEAKER_01Well, and it also just for the record, it took me three sittings. Not because I didn't like it, but it's very long. It's three hours long. It's three hours, it's very long, Dan.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and see, but once you watch it once, then you can just go back and watch your favorite scene. That's what I do all the time. So I watched I watched the scene where he swears to go break the guy out of the prison, breaks the guy out of the prison, we do the prison, then we destroy the bad guy. Watch all of that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And you're just like the the music cues in that movie are perfect.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04The the fights, the the the physics of the fights are absurd. They're just they'll be like, woo, wow! But they're but they're all in service of what's happening. Not also consistent. Oh, yeah, super consistent. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. This movie, not no consistency, and nothing is in service of of what story we're trying to tell.
SPEAKER_01Or the characters. Or the characters. So my superhero fights are are hard, I get it, because they can do almost anything. So you have to tailor them to the character you're working with. How they what is their style, what moves do they use? Like it has to feel I have to watch a fight and be like, oh, this is a supergirl fight. Yeah. This just feels like, oh, it's a super being doing random stuff. The the one thing that I think Marvel does a good job at, especially in like their adventures when they all team up, is people fight differently. They have different styles, and you feel like, oh, now they're gonna do this. It's like, yeah, that's totally a Captain America move. That's awesome. You know what I mean? Like, I don't feel that. I feel like the fight scenes in Superman and Supergirl were pretty similar. She should be a little bit more ragged, like you know, tough around the edges. Like she's a little bit dirtier of a fighter, probably, because of her, you know, depression or whatever. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I w I re-watch uh End of the Spider-Verse all the time, and they've got all the different Spider-Mans, and it's like Spider Gwen, the way she fights is balletic, and you know, it's a full thing, and then what's his name? The the vampire spider guy, he's robust, aggressive, and you know, just they're completely different, and it's it and we that is what we love. You want to make us love watching them do what they do and marveling at it. That's what we're supposed to be doing. Our eyes are supposed to be watching it, and we're supposed to be going, wow, look at look at how that character does this this thing. You know, it's like as we all talk about the Captain America, the elevator fight.
SPEAKER_03Elevator. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's Captain America.
SPEAKER_03He's fighting in an elevator. That's what he's doing. Great. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04That's what we want to see. This one, she's fighting, they don't even show it half half the time, they don't even show the fight. Yep. Let's just not show the fight.
SPEAKER_01That's the easiest way to get around it, right? Just let it happen in the background and you'll see a body every once in a while. It's easy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Let's kick up a lot of dust so you don't see her. Like, what the what the fuck? What is what is going on? And like, yeah, and once again, you get to that final scene where they're fighting in the dust, and you're just like, ah, we're gonna run at you and kill you, even though we can't kill you.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04Like, what and then what are the stakes? Why did why do they have to run at Supergirl and kill her? Yeah. No, no, I don't that. That wasn't an answer? Weird. We know why we know why all the superheroes are running at Thanos.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, we do. He's a good guy. He is, yeah, I know he's Thanos was right all along, everybody.
SPEAKER_03Spoiler
Action Physics And Fight Identity
SPEAKER_03alert.
SPEAKER_04Okay, back to the movie. Crypto sets up the record player song, he pees, blah, blah, blah. Superman calls Zero G. Boom. She goes to Planet Holzer, and the brigands come. Oh no, now we're on Planet Holzer. The brigands come to steal the swords of the Super Swordmaker, and they kill everyone except this little girl. Oh, he eats pie.
SPEAKER_01Didn't look like very good pie. You know? That was a big that was a big no-no for me.
SPEAKER_04That's because they didn't make it. That's because everything looks gross in this movie.
SPEAKER_01That is correct. That should be a delicious homemade pie. All right. So rude. Is that the the steam?
SPEAKER_04This is this is crab. Uh is he is he a soup? Does he have powers? Well, what what uh who is he?
SPEAKER_01I guess he's strong.
SPEAKER_04Is he strong? Is he strong as a hundred men?
SPEAKER_01Maybe 70.
SPEAKER_04Can he knock the moon out of orbit? 70, yeah, good. I don't know if that's a good joke, Tony. Thanks, buddy. Like, what how is this how is this idiot?
SPEAKER_01I mean, I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Can't she just like laser vision, you know, heat vision and just make his head explode instantly?
SPEAKER_01To be honest with you.
SPEAKER_04Just I mean, I mean, Superman's fighting like, you know, the big monster that doesn't regenerate or something. I don't even remember what the big kaiju that he fights is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And then he fights himself, which is a good way around that. It's gonna be tough. It is. It's hard. She's fighting like a dude with yeah, and I I think in the comic he's really just like a guy, I think. But I'm not, I haven't read it, but uh I saw some things online that were like, he's just a guy. I don't know why he looks like a Hellraiser reject. And I was like, oh, interesting. That's not what he looks like in the comic.
SPEAKER_04Oh, he doesn't even look like that. I guess not.
SPEAKER_01He just looks like a regular guy.
SPEAKER_04Somebody chose that look out of holding.
SPEAKER_01Someone was like, you know what would be cool?
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, he's covered in dots, and at one point some of them break off into Supergirl and something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was weird. Oh, what we're our costume department, your your dots fell off. They're like, ah, keep it. It looks cool.
SPEAKER_04So they axe the son, uh the the the guy blows up his ship before they all get killed, but the daughter lives.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Why would you let the daughter live? Well, especially since you grab women and you collect, like his whole thing is collecting women and girls. Why would he leave one of those behind? When you can just walk over and pick it up. Up got it. Right, like this is the easiest conquest you've ever done. This is a free bride. I mean, not that I'm saying I want that to happen. I'm just saying, as that guy, it'd be like, ah, new new bride, mine. Mine. Mine. Might puts it in a bag, right?
SPEAKER_04The child in a bag, it's my child. But you know, zip block is I'll save this for later.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. It's so weird.
SPEAKER_04So the the issue is that um they didn't they can't get off the planet because their ship blowed up, so they gotta go find another ship.
SPEAKER_03So they gotta walk walk somewhere and find a ship. Okay. Tough stuff.
SPEAKER_02Uh supergirl still drinking. Okay. Um we go and here we are.
SPEAKER_04Oh, she's she goes drinking in the bar that uh Ruthie, that our our our our poor daughter is gonna be there. And uh we play a wet leg song, which I think was a new song. I had not heard that song. Okay, and then Ruthie shows up in the bar of everybody, and she's all like, I need someone to track this guy so that I can kill him with this sword, and then I'm gonna give you this sword if you uh if you do this all this stuff for me.
SPEAKER_01So much stuff. Yeah, yeah, so much stuff for one sword. Yeah. So a monster just takes the sword and then uh As you would, as as uh you know, uh a guy of moral ambiguity. Just take the sword.
SPEAKER_04Here's all this money, and I'm a five-year-old child. Okay, we'll take the money for the five-year-old channel. For the money, goodbye, child. Um, and so then Car goes outside and fights the bad guy and gives her back her sword, and she's all like, Oh, you're very strong and amazing. You should be my tracker. Car is like, I don't do things to help people or something. Right. And what? You don't?
SPEAKER_01I'm a little confused.
SPEAKER_04I don't know what she does. I mean, I ostensibly she doesn't do anything. We there is no baseline to who she is. You're right about that, that's true. Or or watching uh SpongeBob because she can make uh SpongeBob jokes. I love Spongebob. Oh, the jokes in this the jokes they give her are just they're so bad.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, you're right. You're right about that. They're painful. But I just so I'm confused, right? Yeah. Because if she's not good, why does why does she hang out with Superman?
SPEAKER_04Like he's like, No, she wouldn't hang out, she just lives in an apartment somewhere.
SPEAKER_01Sure, no, sure, but like the first movie, he's watching her dog, right? And Superman, he's watching her dog while she gets drunk, whatever she does. And then she comes home and she's like, she's been to the Fortress of Solitude, she's like, Oh, this was great. There's never a moment in Superman where I feel like, oh, he's concerned about her because she's not a good person. You know what I mean? Like, I feel like if she wasn't good, if she wasn't helping people, he would have more of a reaction to her.
SPEAKER_04What you're saying is that we don't we're not getting an origin story. We don't know, we don't know what she did in those last three years. She could have done anything. She she could have been just, you know, shooting people with their lasers for fun and what, you know, burning their butts. Woo!
SPEAKER_01100%, which I don't think is happening because then in the scene later with Superman, he's basically just trying to get her to come home and be with him. He's not like, hey, you gotta get on the straight and arrow. You're not you're not living up to your potential. He's just like, I'm worried about you, I miss you, I miss having you as a teammate. Those are the kind of things that he's saying. He didn't say teammate, but you felt like he said, I need your help.
SPEAKER_04He said, I always need your help. He says that later. He's like, I could have used your help on this one.
SPEAKER_01Right. So that's which assumes that he's had her help. Exactly. So I just don't understand. I don't understand her deal. It's not clear to me. It's very muddy, which is, you know, the whole movie, really. Yeah. So there, if I don't understand where she is beginning, and then you don't do anything in the movie to characterize anything, getting to a destination means nothing.
SPEAKER_04I mean, they s in the Superman movie, they sort of did that. They sort of put him seven years in, I think, right? Wasn't he seven years into being Superman or seven years into being Superman or seven?
SPEAKER_01I think it's three years into being known, he's come out as Superman, so he was doing stuff before that. But three years into like, I am Superman.
SPEAKER_04He's done three years of wearing the suit and punching people. So we need to understand, we need to understand what she's going through, why she's going through it, and who she was before, so that we can get to who she's going to be at the end. And if you don't give us any of that, we don't know it, and we can't even conjecture it really.
SPEAKER_01We're just like, I don't, I don't I don't know, I don't and I don't even care because you don't do a good enough job of making these good characters.
SPEAKER_04So she gives her back her sword and is like, ah, you know, get lost. The girl visits in the morning, the girl visits her again to try to bug her, and then they're outside, and then Kreb just steals her ship instantaneously. And then shoots crypto with a poison dart where the poison will kill crypto in three days. Loves it. Let's let's do a really stupid thing. Let's do the time clock based on a an animal dying.
SPEAKER_01Wow. Great stuff. Great stuff.
SPEAKER_04I'm not gonna think that they're gonna solve this. Yeah, they're gonna let the animal die. Uh no.
SPEAKER_01No, but for sure not.
SPEAKER_04But you're also hurting an animal because there's something wrong with it.
SPEAKER_01Manufactured in a way that it doesn't need to be, right? So like it's they they couldn't think of stakes. So they're like, what are some stakes? Oh, an animal almost gonna die. Those are some stakes, you know what I mean? People are gonna care, but we don't care because it's not real stakes to any of it, and also it kind of again makes her weird because she's like, Oh, I'll go save my dog, but then at some point she has to learn to save people, but I never see that. No, so I just I just don't understand the whole story. I never get the fact that she's
The Trolley Problem Of Heroism
SPEAKER_01doing anything other than for crypto.
SPEAKER_04Okay, I've been watching a lot of philosophy videos and argument videos on YouTube. That's because I'm not sure. But one of the things that's interesting is there's a thing called the trolley problem. This is a very classic thing. So you you're on a speeding trolley, speed, and you got a lever. You can go one direction or the other direction. This is it's this is a little bit save Spocker, save the world. Uh-oh. But the trolley problem sets it up super interesting. On one side of the tracks, there's some there's one thing, and then on the other side of the tracks, there's another thing. So it could be your mom is on one side of the tracks, and dad is on the other side of the tracks. Unfortunately, we know what Tony's gonna do. Same answer. We know what Tony's gonna do. But you know, ostensibly you wanna you wanna figure out the weight of the two things. And so in this movie, the weight of the one thing is crypto. Yeah. And then at a certain point, we have Ruthie, or we have the bride, uh, the bride kids, or we have, you know, they just sort of sort of toss stuff on the one side of the tracks, but they never they never set up a you know, when when Kirk has to make the decision of save smoke or save the universe, he is we see his face and we see this happening. And that's this is interesting, Dan. And Spider-Man does the whole thing where in Spider-Man Spider-Verse, he's like, Why can't I do both? And that's that's the hero. The hero, the hero has to figure out the trolley problem, not just by having superpowers, but by being smart.
SPEAKER_01This is interesting because this is also my prop one of my big problems with Superman, the movie. If you remember this at all, two things are happening at the same time. Okay, so two things are happening at the same time. Yeah, but it's it's very clear in Superman. So there's the war in Bur Bulravia or whatever, yeah, and then the earth is cracking open because of the black hole. And so Superman's like, I have to do both, but then doesn't do anything, and then Green Lantern goes over and like saves everybody. There's never there's never the they set it up as as if they know what the game is, and then they're like, Well, but we're not gonna play it. And so that was one of my biggest problems, and that didn't it didn't even register until you said it that that's a huge problem with this movie as well. But they eat they set it up even less. They took a step backwards from Superman, which is wild, because that already missed the mark big time.
SPEAKER_04Boy, these and a good movie sets it up very hard, and it's like in across the spider-verse, uh, what's his name? Who's the who's the the Spider-Man 2099? What's his name? Miguel Miguel. Miguel. Miguel's like, it's the timeline. We're only here to fix the timeline. Whoever's gotta die's gotta die. And you're like, we we understand Miguel. Miguel is making he is doing things the exact way that he's supposed to do them because the way he believes them, but Spider-Man's like, no man, I'm gonna figure it the fuck out and I'm gonna do both. And you're like, that's Spider-Man. You know, Spider-Man's like, I'm gonna do, I'm gonna do my thing, and that's solving the problem. And if that causes more problems, then we're gonna solve more problems.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's what it is.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but yeah, this movie, you're just like, well, if you don't, if you don't force us into the trolley problem or explain it to us or set it up so that she has she never makes a decision. Does she ever make a decision in this movie?
SPEAKER_01No, which is what makes the ending so weird when she's all of a sudden like, I'm a good person, I'm gonna go to Earth and be a superhero. Why? Why? What happened?
SPEAKER_04I don't understand. Well, no, she set up that she's gonna take Ruthie and they're gonna fly around in a spaceship and solve problems.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what they set up. Sure. Which she went back. She went back to Earth, member, and she was like, I'm gonna hang out for a while.
SPEAKER_04Well, yeah, because they were like, how can we get some more David Corn Sweet as Superman in this movie so that we can get him back in? He's great.
SPEAKER_01We gotta end with some of his some of his jokes so that there's something good in the movie at all. This guy's great. Can we get him another scene, please? Sheesh.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so that's that's the trolley problem, and it's a it's a corollary of save Spockers, save the universe. You know, it's a sure. And that I and the the truth of the matter is, is morality, that's what all the morality in our lives is, is making a decision between the between those different paths. And you know, sometimes you're like, well, I'm gonna have to do a little someone's gonna get run over. I guess someone's getting run over. Okay, so see the.
SPEAKER_01Unless I like them, in which case they're gonna get saved, damn. I don't care.
SPEAKER_04The great thing is uh Supergirl has a magic clock, and the magic clock can only go exactly to three days.
SPEAKER_01What a weird what is happening? Three moon rises. Got it. The fuck are we talking about right now?
SPEAKER_04As if as if on Krypton they had the exact same amount of moon rises on this thing as this clock has.
SPEAKER_01It's very weird.
SPEAKER_04Um, we've got flashback to Krypton. We meet young crypto. Um, we're we're on the butt. Okay, so we're now on oh god, I forgot all about this part. We have to
Space Bus Chaos And Tech Pirates
SPEAKER_04talk about it now. What part? We're on the space bus.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. I also forgot. In a two-hour movie, I feel like I forgot at least 45 minutes of it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Space Bus is some of it. So Space Bus is like the cantina on on Space Wheels, uh, and we we have what's his name, Seth, what's his name? Play like the little miniature bone. Oh, Seth Rogan. Seth Rogan.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Don't don't do that. Don't do that in your mind.
SPEAKER_01Don't no time you're like, that's Seth Rogan. What's he doing here?
SPEAKER_04No, he just he does not embody an important character. No, no. Uh so we do a whole thing. The stupid girl's on, you know, stupid girl appears everywhere. She's like, oh, I sniffed on the ship. She's like a ninja. And supergirl, in case you've forgotten, she has X ray vision, so she should be knowing. It's it's super hearing. You would hear her. You would hear that girl. You'd be like, Oh, Ruthie's on board. I hear her talking. I hear her buying a ticket.
SPEAKER_01I hear her breathing. That's all I need.
SPEAKER_04So they Attacked by tech pirates. And the girl tries to pull the sword and they take the sword, and then Supergirl gets ejected into space, and then she she drifts into the yellow sun, then she comes and beats all the tech pirates up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Oh, it was boring. The tech pirates are all women, so that we know that women can't be bad guys. Um, they look terrible. They look beyond terrible.
SPEAKER_01They look terrible. We thought the same thing. Okay, I'm glad that you feel that because we were like, why does this look so weird? Like, oh, well, the makeup is weird. The costuming is terrible.
SPEAKER_04And that that um bridge set of them is terrible. I don't know if I'm sure if you looked at it carefully and looked at the lighting, you'd be like, why don't we bring in the guy from under the silver like, have him light them, and we'll actually have something worth looking at.
SPEAKER_01Because he'll just put a spotlight in the middle of nowhere, dad. No, we're not bringing him in for lighting. Golly.
SPEAKER_04They get to the rest, so they they beat all them, whatever. They get to the rest stop. Uh Kara starts eating uh alien bug poop. Sound what they have they have the alien. Alien is they show with the alien pooping. She scoops out a bunch of enzymes. I guess no, yeah, you're right. I guess is delicious. Delightful. It's like caveat. Then she has the tech pirates tied up on the bus, so then she has to go in there and bargain with them to tell her where the bad guy is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and she just lays her eyes or something. I don't know. Her hair? Is she cutting her hair? Is that what's happening? I don't know, man.
SPEAKER_04And then we set up that the bad guys, in addition to killing her parents, steal young women to turn them into their brides, because it's a the the the whole race of men. Right, which is a little confusing, right? You mean that their whole thing they they have a whole civilization based on rape? Yeah, that's that's what they have.
SPEAKER_01Well, sure. I mean, yeah, that's not great. You know what I mean? But like w why? You know what I mean? You don't know what I mean.
SPEAKER_04I mean, are we talking about why in the in the universe, or are we talking about why would a writer write something this stupid?
SPEAKER_01Oh, both. I guess both, because they both are the same answer to me, which is I don't understand, I don't know. But like, what is their purpose? It's this is the woke propaganda, Tony.
SPEAKER_04Is that what it is? It's it's I I don't believe in woke, but then sometimes you get these things where you're just like, this is just dumb. Why you why are you being dumb? Why are the tech pirates all girls? Why are these guys all guys? It's like it's it's like that stupid movie Happy Feet. You're just like, okay, we we do not need to hit things happy feet. We do not need to hit these things so on the nose. Just make the make the bad guys slavers, and then we're like, oh, they're terrible people, they're slavers. That's good enough. It's it works better if we know that they're slavers.
SPEAKER_01I I'm here's the thing. If you're gonna use this as like a feminist statement for Supergirl, I'm okay with it. I am too, but they don't they don't. So like what I'm saying is I don't understand why that's a choice you made for these characters in this movie. Because it doesn't seem to have any impact on Kara. Kara? Kara Kara. Kara. Whatever Supergirl. It doesn't seem to have any personal effect on her, yeah, character-wise or anything.
SPEAKER_04So, like I Because it probably does in the comic, and they probably explain it. They probably say, and so it may be, who knows?
SPEAKER_01I should probably read it.
SPEAKER_04If you pull shit out of the comic and then don't, you know, don't do the resolves in there, we're not gonna see them and we're gonna think you're an idiot. And we thought you were an idiot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I did. I really did.
SPEAKER_04Uh so they gotta go to they gotta go to Bilky. And then she gives the 911 on, she talks about Superman. You know, the the downtime in this movie where they talk about, you know, this Ruthie asks about Superman and all that is the most wasted space. You you sure usually downtime's like this wonderful time where you get you get all these character notes.
SPEAKER_01It's the co exactly, it's the characterizations between the fights. Like that's how it's supposed to work out.
SPEAKER_04We don't like spending any time with these these things. Um they find a bar, then they have to do an arm wrestle. Um she breaks the guy's arms, everyone points guns, then there's this big screen that a big fight that occurs off screen, which no one cares about, everyone leaves, and then Lobo shows up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04What is what is Lobo doing in this movie?
SPEAKER_01Um he's also looking for one of the the guys for s an unknown reason. Does he get the guy? I think that's the guy he decapitates. Oh, okay. I think, and then he puts it in a bag and makes a joke about it and then drives away. I'm pretty sure that's what happens.
SPEAKER_04Is that is that when he does he gets the head and then is that when he drives around and throws the bombs all over the thing? Yes.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah. So I think he gets his guy and then like just fucks off. I'm pretty sure that's what happens, which is fine. It's just very strange. There's no reason.
SPEAKER_04So we set up that he's looking for a guy that's on the same ship as the guy they're looking for. Okay. And we set up that he's an immortal with a god complex who killed, like, felt like he personally killed everyone on his planet.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's what it sounded like. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Sounds like he should die.
SPEAKER_01Classic genocide, right there. Um, I don't, yeah, I don't understand. She, because the way she treats him is like, oh, this annoying guy who murdered millions of people. I don't understand.
SPEAKER_04That's not a good guy. Not a good guy. No, not a good guy. Um that's cool. Ruthie goes over there and it's like, well, you'll join our team. And then uh Supergirl comes over there and is like, golly, I'm a valley girl. We're just a couple of valley girls. Don't pay attention to us.
SPEAKER_01And she says something like, We're on vacation from Earth, right? But Earth doesn't really have that capability yet, does it? No, not really. The superheroes do, but Earth itself, like, there aren't humans just going around the galaxy right now. Yep. It's very strange.
SPEAKER_04Lobo just leaves, and then we have the two bar people. These these characters are just terrible. We'll tell you something sometime, maybe, but ghosts live here and all, you know, you need to wait something. You're like, Yep, and she's like, Okay, cool, that sounds great. This gives us time to have some more downtime, and I could talk about what happened with Argo when Kryptona blew up, Argo got on the force field, everyone got sick, the soil was poisoned, everyone's dying, they make one more escape pod, and then uh mom makes her promise to be good.
SPEAKER_01But they had eight years. You can't make more than one escape pod in eight years. That doesn't make any sense. At least when in the normal story, it's like, oh shit, we've got three days, the world is is blowing up because nobody, it's like it's global warming, right? It's all the scientists said it's gonna blow up, but nobody believes them, so we X we got rid of the scientists, but now oh no, the core's gonna explode. And so at least there's not a lot of time. But there was eight years.
SPEAKER_04You mean they should have been figuring stuff out?
SPEAKER_01Like where they're you're living in a bubble, guys, where they're getting food for eight years. I just it's just super weird, it doesn't make any sense.
SPEAKER_04Uh um, so and then supergirl's like, that's why I drink.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Okay, I guess. I so what I like is the idea, not the idea is not in this movie, as far as I can tell. Sure. But the idea that she likes to go to red planets because Krypton had a red sun, so it would feel more like home. Yeah, and then that would make her sad and want to drink because her home is gone. So, like, there's an idea there that I actually think is good. We don't talk about it at all or deal with that, but I think that's an interesting thing to look at, and that it was kind of right in front of them, and I don't understand why we didn't talk about it.
SPEAKER_04She needs to talk about that in minute two of the movie. That's what I'm saying. I mean, this is this is minute two shit. She's like, We're crypto, we're out, we're out of here. We're going to a red sun. Yeah. I'm going to celebrate my birthday like I was back at home under the red sun. Right. Where I can feel, I can, you know, where I'm not, I'm not a god. I can feel something.
SPEAKER_01Wonderful. Great stuff.
SPEAKER_04And you have somebody that can write, right at those words.
SPEAKER_01Well, right. Because that is that's one of the interesting differences between them is Superman never experienced Krypton, really, because he was a baby, and she did. So she knows what it's like to feel Kryptonian, and he does not. So, like, that's a that's an interesting dichotomy that they always have, and this movie doesn't give a shit.
SPEAKER_04And like you said, you you can set up a thing where under that yellow sun, you're probably pumped. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. You were adrenaline, baby. You're like, you know, and that that's an interesting thing to think about, you know?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Huh.
SPEAKER_03Nah.
SPEAKER_04Nah. I don't think so. You're wrong. Nah, that would involve us writing something that that would actually motivate a character to do something and make some almost.
SPEAKER_01I don't know about you guys.
SPEAKER_04So she goes down to the two stupid people, they immediately
Poison Timers And Cheap Stakes
SPEAKER_04drug her. Yeah. And then what what is she needed to do to fix the drugging, Tony? You gotta drink milk, dude. Milk!
unknownI need milk.
SPEAKER_01You're just like. I mean, maybe that works out. I've never been poisoned. Um, charcoal. So I don't know. Charcoal. Activated charcoal. That's what you want. What is what does activated mean? I don't know. You don't know. You're just saying words that you've been.
SPEAKER_04What you would want to do is you'd want to get a bunch of wood charcoal and because that absorbs it. I have to eat the wood charcoal?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you gotta eat the charcoal. I'll die. It's all right. You gotta eat the wood charcoal.
SPEAKER_04Thanks anyhow. I'll pass. You just be digging into the go right to the fireplace and nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom. Nope, just wood. I mean, no. You wouldn't want to do briquettes because that would definitely kill you. Briquettes can't be, they can't be something good. They've there's gotta be some terrible shit in briquettes. I gotta be. I mean, I could be wrong.
SPEAKER_01I don't think you're wrong, Dan.
SPEAKER_04I don't think briquettes are the are the you know food of choice we need to dirty. So here comes Crammy, knocks on the door, and she flies away, and they all have crossbows at the ready.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. You gotta. Just in case someone flies away that we didn't know could fly.
SPEAKER_04And then Lobo starts cutting these pod spaceships that are hung from cables underneath the ship that hold the the the women, the women slaves.
SPEAKER_01But luckily they must be very cushioned inside because everyone seems fine, even though they just fell like three stories. Uh I don't know.
SPEAKER_04More than that, you think with fifteen stories, my friend. I mean, I'm sure it's the same amount of damage, three stories or fifteen, but fifteen is I don't know. Yeah, it's they were high. They were flying. So they so it was Lomo that starts dropping them for unnoble reasons. Um so the what if the weird couple, their daughter was one of the slaves, so they were trading Supergirl and Stupid Girl for the two.
SPEAKER_01Two for one's a pretty good deal. Uh you know, I would do the same thing.
SPEAKER_04But then it doesn't count because she wasn't properly drugged. So drugged. So now Krem's only mission is to kill that one girl.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Seems a little petty.
SPEAKER_04So, okay. Uh I wrote rock and roll fight scene with no stakes. That's what happens.
SPEAKER_01Yep. That's correct. I feel like that pretty much explains all the fights in this movie.
SPEAKER_04And then I I wrote, I guess Supergirl and Lobo won.
SPEAKER_01I did they I I I guess. I mean, the guys run away. So I guess that counts as a win.
SPEAKER_04Some guy steals Lobo's cycle, and then Lobo axes him in the back, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and he gets a he you know, he says something fun like uh that's not a good idea. I don't know. I don't know what he said. I think I giggled.
SPEAKER_04Also, he did have one joke. He had one joke. I think he had one joke.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think so.
SPEAKER_04You got Lobo out there played by Jason Moen. How many jokes do you give him?
SPEAKER_01One 1.5, maybe.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, pretty good. 1.75 jokes. Um, Kram can smell the girl, and then he in like a long shot, he kills the Yeah, I guess they didn't want to make it too graphic because it's a child, maybe.
SPEAKER_01Maybe that was what the thought, but between but it just takes away the emotional resonance a little bit. It makes me feel detached from the death of this child. Not that I want to see it, but like it has to mean something.
SPEAKER_04Nope, doesn't you're not even sure she's dead. You're like, did he kill her? That's that's true. Did he not kill her? I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um I guess in the middle of this, Ruthie tried to kill Krem and was sort of walking towards him, and then Supergirl stopped her. But Ruthie thought that she was gonna be able to kill him just by walking up to Krem and hitting him with this dumb sword.
SPEAKER_01You know, a little sneak attack, you know. Works every time.
SPEAKER_04Uh Krem fucks off. Um Yeah. And some flight they fly into space and scream. Oh, well, they find they find the body. They warp out.
SPEAKER_01Supergirl and Ruthie find the body, and Ruthie's like, they're dead because of you, because you didn't let me kill them. And then and then she's sad.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Oh no, she flies out into space and she screams, but we can't hear the screams. Because in space, no one can hear you scream. Alien.
SPEAKER_01Or was that aliens? I can't remember which one that was the first one. It's the first one, all right.
SPEAKER_04Uh cue some badass music, and she goes and forces people to tell them where the bad guys are, but they're like, We'll take you, but you gotta wear this hood.
SPEAKER_01Gotta wear a hood? What?
SPEAKER_04Why? What what are we talking about here? Cause we gotta take you to the planet in secret, so you don't know. Right.
SPEAKER_01It's like it's like when you put it in a car and then the guy has to count the turns, you know, that old game. It's like that, but with space. So but she doesn't do that. No, she doesn't do that at all.
SPEAKER_04They get there, and then she's all like, oh, I'm gonna go. There's their ship. He's an guy points out the ship, there's their ship. She starts walking, and then she falls over because this place has a green sun and a yellow sun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's split. I don't know. I don't know. It's two sons. Two suns. At the same time or like different times? It's called a binary system, Tony. Ah, sure. Two sons. Two suns. So they're just like Tatooine.
SPEAKER_04Remember Tatooine? It had two suns, isn't it? No, I think Tatooine has a bunch of moons.
SPEAKER_01Alright. I don't know anything about that.
SPEAKER_04I don't know if any of the Star Wars ones have multiple suns. I think they mostly have multiple moons. Lots of moons.
SPEAKER_01That makes more sense than multiple suns, though, actually, if you think about it, right? Lucas was always throwing extra moons. He's like, hey. Okay, yeah, because moons make sense. Moons, you don't orbit the moon. The moon orbits you. But the sun, we orbit the sun. So if there's two suns, where are we? Are we doing like an S formation, a figure eight? Like, what are we doing?
SPEAKER_04Uh she had she gets saved by someone, which of course we all know is Ruthie, uh, but she hallucinates that it's Superman, and I wrote, he's way more charismatic than this entire movie.
SPEAKER_01He is indeed. That's correct.
SPEAKER_04And we we do another little flashback where she's living in New York City, listening to an iPod and taking Polaroid camera shots.
SPEAKER_01Which I don't think those really happened at the same time. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that real those really didn't happen at the same time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But that's cool. She wakes up in a cave, there's Ruthie. Ruthie is there. Um, Ruthie apologizes. Uh, she's like, You're not perfect, but you are good. And then she's like, Give me some water. So Ruthie goes down to the water, she sees a brigand, but she immediately gets captured, and she wakes up on the ship in a jail next to one random dude, which I don't know why they showed us the random dude in a cell.
SPEAKER_01And I so that you know that it's a jail and not just a cage for them. Maybe.
SPEAKER_04I don't know. I'm like, why are we showing us this weird random dude? I don't know. I was like, oh I was like, okay, Pan, okay, we're gonna see Lobo, and then you see a random dude, and you're like, Who's this guy? What's he doing? What's he doing over here? We never know.
SPEAKER_01Never wakes up. I won't worry about it. He's gonna get his own prequel.
SPEAKER_04Don't worry. We set up that this cage has spikes that are all poisoned because Ruthie tries to like climb up or something. I guess she's very ineffective, and she she spends a lot of time with her face right next to spikes when she's talking to Lobo. And I'm like, I don't know. When you set up danger, do you like I mean I should question Tony? We haven't done a lot. There's a lot going on in this movie that we're making fun of, so we haven't had a lot of time to talk about you. Which is why people enjoy that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sure.
SPEAKER_04Do you go, you know, we we know you don't go in the sea because the sea's always so scary.
SPEAKER_01The sea is it is this very dangerous place.
SPEAKER_04Do you go to the edge of the cliff?
SPEAKER_01The edge of the cliff? No, let me tell you why I would never go to the edge of the cliff because I am 300 pounds. The edge of a cliff is the least stable part of a cliff. That's gonna collapse and I'll be dead. I will, you know, so let's say we're on a pathway, right? And here's the edge of the cliff, and here's like more cliff. I will be up, I'll hug this part back. Yeah, I'll be like this. I'll hang on to some rocks, maybe, and then I'll just be like, yeah, look at out there. It's beautiful. But I gotta get down as fast as possible.
SPEAKER_04Now, would you go on like the things like where you're on the big building and then there's the glass uh the thing that goes out?
SPEAKER_01Absolutely not. There's so in Vegas, they have that, right? Where you there it like goes out over the roof so you can like lay down on it shit. Stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life. You're just asking for it. In fact, if it fell down, I'd be like, good, you get what you deserve because you're an idiot. Get what you deserve. Don't tempt fate, you stupid.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Uh so they're in the jail, and she kind of talks to Lobo, and she's like, I kill for money. Uh I don't go back on and we set up that he doesn't go back on his word. I'm like, oh. What word? What word? Well, I mean, if he makes your promise. Sure, but he didn't.
SPEAKER_01So why are we even talking about it? I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I I figured that was gonna be like the little piece of information she was gonna she's gonna trick him into saying, you know, oh it's not. Don't worry. I don't like that guy. I'm gonna kill him one of these days. Hey, you said that. He's like, ah, damn it, I said it.
SPEAKER_01Ah, shoot, you got me. Nope. Nope. He just offers that information for no reason whatsoever.
SPEAKER_04Uh the bad guy wants Kara's body, so they they need to figure out where her body is. An actual piece of motivation that makes sense. You were like, well, that actually makes some sense. That could lead to something. Nah. Nah. Nah. So this is my favorite part. Ruthie manipulates the brigands, like, you know, like, oh, I'm gonna now I'll talk. And so the one brigand goes in there, and what happens, Tony, when the one brigand goes in when he's trapped alone in the in the prison with Ruthie? Does he does she beat him up? Yeah, she kills, she kills him.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_04Little Ruthie, who has no skills, who's shown no skills, like climbs the wall, gets him in a gets him in a thing with their legs, and kill kills one of these guys that can fight.
SPEAKER_01Does he die? Well, essentially. Well, because so this matters to me because the whole storyline is super like you can't kill anyone.
SPEAKER_04She probably unconsciouses him or something.
SPEAKER_01Alright, whatever. I just disagree in this whole entire storyline of like, don't let Ruthie get her vengeance. Let her let her stew in her parents' death without any form of uh catharsis. That's a good idea.
SPEAKER_04Well, let's talk about we'll talk about that when we get there.
SPEAKER_01All right, well, let's talk about it later.
SPEAKER_04Ruthie has no fighting skills and she defeats these greatest fighters that could defeat that could fight Lobo and Supergirl.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04This little kid can somehow in in a superpower. Without superpowers, defeat this guy. I want Yeah, it makes perfect sense. I want her to use one of those poison spikes. I want her to do something. Intelligent.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so you want her to win with her brain against Braun. I see what you're saying.
SPEAKER_04It's almost like a thing that would make some amount of sense, but they've they haven't played her like that ever in the movie.
SPEAKER_01That's correct.
SPEAKER_04She's not um uh god. Yeah, this is this is just the beginning of Super Ruthie in this thing. Uh she lets Lobo out, and then Lobo's like, okay, come on, let's go this way. Somehow she has climbed into the vents.
SPEAKER_01Straight up. Twelve feet above her, maybe, maybe 15. I don't know. When you because Lobo's big and he's looking up.
SPEAKER_04And she does it later again. She drops down from the vent and then goes back into the vent in seconds in seconds.
SPEAKER_01She almost can jump as high as I can. I've got a great vertical jump.
SPEAKER_04You're kidding, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have a terrible. I don't even know if I can jump.
SPEAKER_04I mean, we should have set up that she like has gymnastics or something. And then she's a leaper. If you set up gymnastics a couple times where she's like, oh sure. And like when she because she does sort of test the room and she sort of climbs up there. If she'd have gone like and then was hanging from the top, you know, dun dun dun dun dun dun.
SPEAKER_01Sure. And then you're like, okay, all right, I get it.
SPEAKER_04Give her some monkey skills. If she had some monkey skills, I'd be like, oh, monkey girl, great, this is cool. I like this. Monkey girl? No. We don't give it a girl. She's not, though. She just has them now that they they need them. Okay, so then we have the big fight on the top of the ship. Fight, fight, fight. Or no, they're the guys are sort of practicing fighting. Ruthie's like, this is my chance. She walks over, she sees the lever, and then Krem sees her, and then he like goes like this lasso, lasso, lasso. Which is like, that's kind of interesting. It's a sure. It was defined. And then uh uh Supergirl shows up and then Krem shoots her with kryptonite poison arrows.
SPEAKER_01Which he made especially for her is that what in the last 15 minutes he has made these special magic arrows. Ever since I've learned who and what you are, somehow I made these for you.
SPEAKER_04The great thing about the arrows is when Supergirl pulls them out, they then You're fine. Nothing there's nothing going on. Even though we show the Kryptonite in her blood.
SPEAKER_01Don't worry about it. Don't worry about that. Don't worry about it, Dan. Are they on Yellow Sun? Because the Yellow Sun does heal it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we switched to Yellow Sun at a certain point. Yeah, you know, she's fine. I didn't say that. I said, you know, the yellow sun comes up, supergirl gets her powers. Here she comes. Yeah. And then Lobo also attacks. Oh, he does lots of blabbing. Uh uh Kram does lots of blabbing. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Uh Lobo revenges on Krim. Ruthie's gotten thrown off and she's hanging from a rope. They throw Kram off. He's hanging. Somehow he ends up hanging from the same rope.
SPEAKER_01Right above her. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And I think at one point he tries to kill her, and then at one point she also does that thing with the silks where he goes, whoop, whoop, whoop. Yeah. I'm like, once again, here's more of her super athletic, but super acrobatic powers.
SPEAKER_01She's in Cirque de Soleil. You didn't know.
SPEAKER_04They should have been that. They should have said that. She should have the girl should have come home. She's like, wow, I'm on I'm on holiday from Cirque de Soleil.
SPEAKER_01I'm on holiday. Beautiful. Beautiful stuff.
SPEAKER_04Lobo blows up the ship. The ship starts crashing. Everything starts falling off the ship. Great. The Yellow Sun cures the kryptonite. Ruthie gets saved. Then she the tanks and motorcycles. Oh god, this is this is like the thing I hated the most. So the ship is crashing. The brides are inside. They're in like a bonus cage inside. But there's like this one tank that's held by this one chain. It has one link that is like breaking. It's one link. You can see this one link, and you're just like, come on.
SPEAKER_02You don't, you know, you don't need to.
SPEAKER_04There's things you need to show, and there's things you don't need to show. I mean, even in like stupid Rebel Moon, you know, when everything's shifting and everything's falling, you were like, okay, that that was not a terrible scene.
unknownSure.
SPEAKER_01Everything is. That's classic Zack Snyder, you know.
SPEAKER_04He can he knows how to do they should have brought Zach in and just had him do the like the fights and shit. Because he did he understands the physical fights.
SPEAKER_01They already let him do, and everyone was mad at him. So I'm still mad at him.
SPEAKER_04I'm not mad at him. So the chain breaks, here comes the tank. It's gonna crush the brides. She goes in there, stops the tank. I'm holding the tank, and then she shoots laser eyes, and then the brides all run out, and then she flies out, and then finally she starts just pummeling the fuck out of Krim.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04They gotta always remember is Superman can go so fast he can go backwards in time.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and he can spin the world backwards too. Reverse time somehow. So that's cool.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it should all be very easy for her. It should be, but it's not.
SPEAKER_04She finally pummels Krem, he's pummeled. Uh Ruthie's standing there and she pummels everyone else. People try to come and kill her, and Supergirl just stops it. And then the the brides get guns
Vengeance Debate And Ending Whiplash
SPEAKER_04and start shooting people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Classic bride behavior.
SPEAKER_04And then Ruthie goes over to kill Krem and Supergirl's like, don't kill Krem. You'll be, you know, all these other brides are allowed to kill the bad guys. But you better not kill this guy, because then then all you will have is that's one thought of something, and that'll be bad.
SPEAKER_01Why? What would be bad about that? Avenging your your family's death? I think that that is actually probably something you need. I always have a problem with this in movies because a lot of movies do this where it's like you don't you don't become the killer. It's like fuck that, man. Get it out of your system. If it helps, great. If not, you're not worse off than just closing your eyes and seeing your parents get murdered. You know what I mean? Like that that's bottom. That's rock bottom. You're not gonna get worse. That's true. Maybe it'll help, maybe it doesn't. I don't know, but it's not gonna get worse.
SPEAKER_04You you the image of him dying is not gonna, it's not gonna well, the image of him not dying is not gonna erase the memory of your parents dying. There's there's nothing, you haven't done anything.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. You've done jack squat, so you're just gonna see your parents dead all the time. But now if you murder this guy, maybe that'll replace the image, and that's a good image, you know. But I'm I'm all I'm all messed up. That's what I've been told. Who told you that? I my wife. I tell her I like to venge her all the time and she doesn't like it.
SPEAKER_04I was talking with Shannon. It's like we love revenge, we love vengeance. I'll watch it any, I will glorify vengeance on any TV show. I just I love it. I love seeing vengeance. It is it's some of the little justice we ever have.
SPEAKER_01Yes! Like, I I don't know. Wow, I disagree with it. Uh Carn kills him. They go back. I also disagree with that, by the way. That she kills him. Yeah, she can't kill him. That doesn't make any sense. Is she a murderer? Supergirl can't kill. Yeah, Supergirl can't kill somebody. I'm sorry. That's not okay.
SPEAKER_04She should have had Roofy kill it. Rucy should have said, like, 100%. Nope.
SPEAKER_01You're the you're or bring him to jail or something. I don't know. Put him in the phantom zone. I don't know. Kick him through the phantom zone. That's what Supergirl should have pulled out the Phantom Zone generator and popped him in there. Throw the crystals. You're done. She can't kill him.
SPEAKER_04They go back, they save Christo. Crypto. Christo.
SPEAKER_01The artist Christo Monte Cristo.
SPEAKER_04Monte Cristo. Uh they're gonna leave her with her aunt, and then she changes her mind and is like, now we will travel the world together and let's go party. And I will beat people up, and then you will sit in you'll sit in the thing because you can't do anything.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you won't come out here. I don't know. It's fine.
SPEAKER_04Then they go to Earth and they we meet Superman. Superman's doing great. Um, and he says, I could always use your help. And then she's just like, I'm happy to be back home.
SPEAKER_01When did this become home? Um I don't understand. Because that her parents sent her there. Earth is home. Sure, but she didn't feel like it was home before. What part of this movie has now made her realize that that's home? Because she killed Krim.
SPEAKER_05Oh, got it. And that resolves that resolves all her issues.
SPEAKER_01So it turns out killing is good and she should have let Ruthie do it. That selfish animal. That was that was the whole movie.
SPEAKER_04The whole movie is her selfishness.
SPEAKER_01She wanted to have that sweet, sweet revenge. I needed that revenge, not you, you tiny twerp. Great stuff. Anything else compelling and rich.
SPEAKER_04Anything else you want to say about this movie?
SPEAKER_01I just I I gotta tell you, man, this James Gunn DC is just not doing it for me.
SPEAKER_04And you want to talk about how great the Under the Silver Lake was? I still don't want to do that. I'm not, I haven't lost my mind. Here's what we do we bring, what's his name in? Silver Lake Guy, he does all the lighting. We bring in Zack Snyder, he designs all the fights.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'm okay with that.
SPEAKER_04How's that sound?
SPEAKER_01Can instead of lighting, can we just have him do the cinematography so it looks beautiful? Okay, thank you. Although I will say that under the Silver Lake, very colorful. Yeah, it pops. This movie, very drab. Like there's very little color in this movie. So maybe I'm wrong. Maybe he should do it all. I don't know. You're gonna feel like I'm losing my mind. Coming to my side. No, I refuse. I'm back to wanting to see uh the end of Oak Street.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, we're gonna we're doing the end of Oak
Detective Hole Pick And Spider-Man Rave
SPEAKER_04Street 100%.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna be great. It's gonna be good.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so as I said, my my pick of the week is uh this uh show called Detective Hole. Uh Scandy Dewar. His name is Harry Hole. Every time they say you laugh. Harry Hole. No, that can't be right. What's his name, Harry Hole? Is it is it a joke in the show? No. No, are you sure? He's like a Jason, Jason Satham type. He's like, he's all business. But his name is Harry Hole. Well, it's you know, it's like a Swedish or Norwegian or whatever.
SPEAKER_01Do they not is hair not the same word in Sweden?
SPEAKER_04I don't think hair is the same word in Sweden, Tony. Okay. Wow. Hair's not the same word everywhere on the planet?
SPEAKER_01I mean, listen, Harry Hole, though. Like, you can't you do laugh every time they say it. Yeah, I love it. Harry Hole.
SPEAKER_04Um, what do you what do you got for us, Tony?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so we uh went and saw Spider-Man. Oh, the new one. Well, yeah, what's it called? Brand New Day.
SPEAKER_04Whew.
SPEAKER_01Beautiful. It was good. Loved it. Yeah, we loved it. Thought it's great. Now, have you liked the last two? No, I did we not do No Way Home, the one with the three Spider-Man? Did we do that for this show?
SPEAKER_04I have I I I'm trying to think if I I think I watched the very first real spy new Spider-Man with the kid, with uh Okay. Homecoming? There's so many names. It was in Civil War and they're all very similar. It was in Civil War. I loved him in Civil War, so I went and saw the first one. I enjoyed it, and then I think I tried to watch the one with Mysterio, with what's his name is Mysterio, and it was so terrible. I tried to watch the three Spider-Man ones, and it was so terrible. I didn't finish either of those.
SPEAKER_01I hated them all. I hate that movie. Um I hate so that's Spider-Man No Way Home with the three Spider-Man. I hate that movie. Yeah, there were but I loved this movie.
SPEAKER_04This movie's done, and so somebody was talking about it. Maybe it was the Red Letter Media guys, but somebody was talking about it, and they said that the they shot everything in those last two movies, at least the last two movies, on like a sound stage. And so the lighting is just like flat. You know, it's like we're saying about the the the tech pirates. It just it looks like garbage, it looks like bad television. You know, there was all the bar scenes. They did that Guardians of the Galaxies TV special that I had to turn off after the first song because it was so fucking shit. It looks like that, and you're just like, this looks terrible. And I mean, I'm not saying all the Marvel movies look good, but they kind of they kind of foreshorten and do stuff with it, so it doesn't just look like a soundstage. Yeah, for sure. You know, I get that. Um what are we talking about? I don't know what we're talking about. Oh, we're talking Spider-Man. So he was saying the guy was saying that those first those last two movies were not like that. This one, the Shang Chi guy did it, he took it to the streets, he hired the Jackie Chan guys to do the stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yes. And the fight in the jail cell is so cool. Okay, see, that's what you want. You have it's all it's not all, but like it's most almost all practical. So you they're on wires and they're like doing these like oh it's so cool.
SPEAKER_04It feels like a like a Spider-Man fight. Because that first when you watch that Civil War and the airport fight, that fight is great. That fight is like you you feel Spider-M moving through space. I never liked Sam Raimi that much. I it never really did much for me. I I did not like those Spider-Man movies.
SPEAKER_01You didn't like Spider-Man 2, the greatest superhero?
SPEAKER_04Oh boy, I hate Spider Man. I hate plastic green. I I I think for the most part, I get that. I don't like Sam Raimi. I like Evil Dead, but I you know I told you I didn't make it through that the island one. I had to turn it off because it just Oh yeah, yeah. It's so not it's so not real.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, you're right about that. He his characters are not human beings. Sure, but Dylan O'Brien's so handsome, so you just have to excuse it.
SPEAKER_04He's so pretty. I just wow the look at him.
SPEAKER_01Oh, he's he's a delight. I love him.
SPEAKER_04Um, so the Shang-Chi guy did this one. Shang-Chi was great. I enjoyed Shang-Chi a ton.
SPEAKER_01The bus fight in Shang-Chi is awesome. It's a bus fight. Awesome, you know? Yeah. And they have so like that's his like, yeah, you're right. So he does have like great fights because the bus fight, the jail cell fight is a 10 out of 10, man. It's really um good. I would I would say see it. Yeah, I will absolutely watch it.
SPEAKER_04But those other ones, you're just like, they're they're a mess. They don't make any sense.
SPEAKER_01They're like they make no way home with the three spider makes zero sense.
SPEAKER_04They do I was so mad about just like Spider-Man's motivations were weird, Doctor Strange motivations were weird, the Spider-Man's motivation, the villain's motivations were insane. You're just like, I can't, yeah, I can't the weird Doc Ock. You're like, I love Molina. He's great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's great.
SPEAKER_04Now, is he the villain in the first movie or the second movie? Second.
SPEAKER_01Okay, right? I think I've I think Doc Ock is is two. Is that two? I must have seen that because he was because one is Green Goblin, two is Doc Ock, and three is Sandman and Venom. Yeah. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04So I think I I'm pretty sure that's right. I think I watched two, and I was like, Molina's Molina's great.
SPEAKER_01He played a great Doc Ok. You listen to me now.
SPEAKER_04Such it's a classic, iconic moment. Yeah, yeah. But when he when he came back for the the triple Spider-Man, you're like, oh, what is happening?
SPEAKER_01The whole thing was shit. It was absolute shit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so you saw it, that's
Next Week Steven Spielberg Disclosure
SPEAKER_04good. Excellent.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, we we really enjoyed it. Cool.
SPEAKER_04Uh we need a movie for next week. Uh, what are we doing? We're going to the GOAT. We're going to Steven Spielberg Disclosure Day.
SPEAKER_01All right. Gave me one week off. I appreciate it. Yeah, let's do this.
SPEAKER_04What do you mean? Were we going to do it last week or something?
SPEAKER_01No, well, because I watched it two weekends ago and I was like, I need to I need to not do it this week. So we're good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's like yesterday when I finished Supergirl, I was like, I hate this movie more than anything. I this is one of the most hated movies I've ever seen. And I still really dislike this movie. Um because hashtag do better.
SPEAKER_01Hashtag do better indeed. But they're not gonna, man.
SPEAKER_04You know, at least the Superman movie, you were like, Oh, okay. I I mean I love Western that played Lois Lane, Court Sweet was was fine, you know, the Green Lantern, all the other in this movie, though.
SPEAKER_01It's very, it's very jarring to me because I I watched Superman on the plane on Thursday and then watched this movie yesterday. And I was like, it's so weird to see him play it perfectly, and it's just that and it's not like he's great in both, yeah, but the writing in this is like that's Superman. That's great, that's really good. I don't know, it's interesting.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he's like talking to he's talking to Supergirl and she doesn't speak English, and he's like, Oh yeah, you don't speak the oh shoot, shoot, you don't speak the you don't speak this language, and it just the line is perfect, the delivery is just like um yeah, he's talking to her, but he's also talking to himself, and he's very self-depreciating and just like wow, okay, wow, oh yes, please.
SPEAKER_03It's beautiful, yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's great. Okay, we're calling it there. So
Thumbs Up And Goodbye
SPEAKER_04girl, get the hell out of there. Um, yeah, if you like what we do, give us a thumbs up, leave a comment, or subscribe. Those are all things you can do to help us. And um, I think we're gonna be back next week uh with uh Steven Spielberg. We just did War of the Worlds. Disclosure. We did War of the Worlds a couple of months ago.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna be so much worse than War of the Worlds.
SPEAKER_04Hold on a second. It's worse than War of the Worlds? Well, War of the Worlds has has things in it that I that I comment on all the time.
SPEAKER_01It has some of my favorite things in I don't feel like this movie had great things. Oh no.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, I'm scared.
SPEAKER_01I think Emily Blunt is great. Does that help at all?
SPEAKER_04Just getting to watch her is you know it's a treat. It's a treat. So I'm gonna I'm gonna that's I'm gonna wrap that in my heart and uh try to try to lose the best. And uh we'll be back talking about that next week.
SPEAKER_01Goodbye, everybody.
